The Week Ahead: Haunted House, Film Preview, Beer Science

Some of the meetings and events happening this week in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda

On Monday evening, the Moraga Planning Commission will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Moraga Library Community Room, 1500 St. Mary's Road.

On the agenda is approval of a proposed St. Mary's College parking management plan.

On Tuesday evening, 
author Joyce Maynard will discuss her new novel, "After Her," as part of the Lafayette Library and Learning Center's Distinguished Speaker Series.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the library's Community Hall.

On Tuesday evening, a joint meeting of the Moraga Town Council and the Moraga school board will be held.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School, 1010 Camino Pablo.

On the agenda is a discussion of the financial goals of the school district and the impacts on the city.

Also on Tuesday evening, the Orinda City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Orinda Library auditorium, 26 Orinda Way.

On the agenda is an update on the sale and management of eight below-market residences in the Orinda Grove development.

On Wednesday afternoon, a sneak peek of the 16th Annual California Independent Film Festival will be held.

The free screening begins at 2 p.m. at the Moraga Library.

The film festival is Nov. 7-10 at the Rheem Theater in Moraga and the Orinda Theatre.

On Wednesday evening, a mixer will be held for the Orinda, Moraga and Lafayette Chamber of Commerces.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Orinda Theatre, 2 Theatre Square.

Also on Wednesday evening, the Moraga Town Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School, 1010 Camino Pablo.

On the agenda is an ordinance amending the Moraga Municipal Code regarding lot sizes and setbacks.

Also on Wednesday evening, a seminar on the Art of Science and Beer will be held at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

The Science Cafe event begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 21 years old to attend.

On Thursday evening, award-winning author Robert San Souci will share some frightening folklore and well-known tales.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

Also on Thursday evening, the third and final seminar in a leadership series will be held in Moraga.

The workshop begins at 7 p.m. at the Serbian Cultural Center, 1700 School St.

The topic is working with conflict.

On Friday afternoon, Halloween comes to downtown Lafayette.

The festivities begin at 4 p.m. with trick-or-treating for costumed children at downtown stores.

A costume contest will be held at the Plaza at 6 p.m. and a screening of "Ghostbusters" will be shown at 6:30 p.m.

On Friday evening, tours will begin at the Lafayette Youth Commission's 10th annual Haunted House.

The spooky house will be set up at the Lafayette Community Center, 500 St. Mary's Road.

The less scary version of the house is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The scarier version will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday morning, a flower show will be held in Orinda.

The Dynamic Ikebana Flower Show begins at 11 a.m. at the Orinda Community Center, 28 Orinda Way.

Also on Saturday morning, a seminar on elder care and aging for families will be held in Lafayette.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church, 49 Knox Drive.
