Lamorinda Goes 1-2-3 In Academic Decathlon

Campolindo High teams take first and second in the Contra Costa County decathlon; the red team moves on to state competition in March.

Lamorinda swept the top three places in the county High School Academic Decathlon.

The county's individual award went to Zach Scherer of Campolindo, with Matthew Freeman of Campolindo in second place.

In the awards reception Monday night, it was announced that:

  • First place went to the Campolindo High red team;
  • Second place went to the Campolindo blue team; and
  • Third place went to Acalanes High.

This year's theme was Russia. Students compete as teams and individuals in a series of 10 academic tests and demonstrations in the Russia curriculum. The test was held the last two Saturdays.

The Campo red team will represent the county at the state Academic Decathlon in Sacramento March 14-17. It's the third year in a row that a Campolindo team will represent Contra Costa County in the state competition.

The competition is directed by the Contra Costa County Office of Education, assisted by volunteers.
