Expect Delays on Manzanita Drive in Orinda

Delays of ten minutes or more can be expected this summer as the Manzanita Bridge replacement project moves ahead, officials say. A detour road is now in place.

The road, between Camino Pablo and Acacia Drive, will be a temporary one-lane affair with lights, a signal system, striping, crash cushions (which hopefully won't be needed) and signs to help confused drivers navigate two-way traffic on a one-lane road.

The project is expected to continue through Oct. 15. The speed limit on the one-lane portion is 10 m.p.h., so no drag racing there, please. Bicycles are allowed on the detour and the bridge.

Traffic will be controlled with temporary traffic signals at each end of the one-lane bridge and the posted speed limit for this detour road is 10 mph.  Bicycles are allowed use of the detour road and bridge.

This detour bridge and detour road are needed as part of a construction project to replace the existing Manzanita Drive Bridge which will be demolished and replaced with a new bridge.
