Lamorinda police responded Wednesday to a possible in-progress break-in after a Lafayette resident discovered her home was burglarized and thought the intruder was still inside, according to police.
The woman arrived in the afternoon to her Arbor Drive residence, noticed items missing from the entryway, stepped further inside and heard a rear bedroom door slam, said Lafayette Police Department Chief Eric Christensen.
Thinking the burglar was on the premises, the woman ran to a neighbor's to call police, he said.
Officers from the Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda police departments responded, along with a Sheriff's Office K-9 team and helicopter unit, he said, and locals were advised to be on the lookout for suspicious activity.

After searches of the house and yard, the law enforcement units ended the pursuit, concluding that the burglar, or burglars, were long gone when the resident had returned, and the slamming door was due to the wind, Christensen said.
However, the Arbor Drive home was, indeed, burglarized, with several computers, jewelry and a television taken, he said.
No value for the losses was given.
An area neighbor reported seeing a vehicle backed into the driveway between noon and 1 p.m.
Anyone who may have information, noticed anything suspicious between 9 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. -- or has home-surveillance footage -- is asked to call the Lafayette police at (925) 284-5010.
Residents are reminded to lock doors and windows to help deter burglaries, and if a stranger is suspected to be inside a home to do what the Lafayette woman did -- leave the premises and call police.
