Moraga Voters Approve Parcel Tax For Schools

The $192 per parcel tax will be assessed for six years

Moraga voters approved a new parcel tax on Tuesday to help pay for school programs.

Measure B received 3,541 "yes" votes and 1,663 "no" votes, according to the Contra Costa County Elections website.

The 68 percent approval rate was above the two-thirds majority needed.

The elections office still needs to count the provisional and absentee ballots that were turned in at the polls on Tuesday. They expect to update vote totals on Friday.

Measure B institutes a $192 per parcel tax that would be in existence for six years.

The measure raises $1.1 million a year to help fund programs in the Moraga School District.

This is one of two parcel taxes Moraga school district residents will now pay. Residents approved a $325 per parcel tax in 2004. That one raises $1.8 million and does not have a sunset clause.
