Jason Marsalis At The 3rd Annual Orinda Jazz Festival

The Third Annual Orinda Jazz Festival comes to the Orinda Library Auditorium & Courtyard on Saturday, September 28th, 2013 from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Two stages will be set up—one in the courtyard adjacent to the library auditorium and the other inside the auditorium. A one-day event benefiting The Orinda Arts Council ~ Community Programs, it will feature well-acclaimed international, regional, and local musicians and artists.

This year’s featured artist is Jason Marsalis, a famous vibraphone artist, and the youngest member of the First Family of Jazz from New Orleans, The Marsalis Family. Other headliners scheduled to appear will be  two-time Grammy Award recipient, Mads Tolling, an internationally renowned violinist and soloist for Grammy Award Winning Turtle Island Quartet; Claudia Villela, the magnificent Brazilian Jazz singer and pianist, internationally acclaimed for her distinct poetic Brazilian lyrics and bossa nova repertoire; popular Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center performer, Carol Alban, releasing her new CD, Songs for Kids of All Ages featuring Marsalis and Tolling; award winning Jazzperformer and educator, Lafayette resident Bob Athayde;  multi-talented Latin Jazz performer Rene Escovedo on drums and percussion; Los Angeles based Jazz sensation, Brian Kinler Band; upright and electric bassist  Aaron Germain; local youth artists Dominant Seven, and Miramonte Jazz Ensemble, and other celebrated performers. The master of ceremonies is KRON TV personality, Stanley Roberts.

Open to all ages, this is an event where people come to see, to be seen, and most importantly, to enjoy the company of friends and relatives while enjoying great music.

As a special opportunity  for aspiring musicians of all ages, free community workshops will be provided from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm by Jason Marsalis (drums), Mads Tolling (jazz violin), and Bob Athayde (improvisation).

Last year’s second annual event had a sold-out attendance, and this year’s Orinda Jazz Festival is expected to reach the same level of success so it is highly recommended that tickets be purchased in advance as they may no longer be available at the door on Sept 28th, 2013.

A ticket admission to the first two shows (1:00 PM – 3:30 PM) ranges from $5 to $12. The Main Event (4:00 PM – 7:00 PM show), which includes light refreshments, is $20 for the general public. All tickets are available for purchase at the festival’s website OrindaJazzFestival.org (<http://www.OrindaJazzFestival.org> or <http://www.orindajazzfestival.altpro.net>. For more details, e-mail OrindaJazz@gmail.com or call 925.255.5164.

Proceeds will be donated to The Orinda Arts Council, a 63 year old organization that supports performing arts in the community.
