The district was formed in 1997 as an independent special district born through consolidation of the Orinda and Moraga fire districts. Chief Randall Bradley was named the district's third chief in 2009, and MOFD's current complement consists of 74 full-time personnel, 18 paid on-call reserves and eight volunteers.
