In 1978 the Asssistance League of Diablo Valley, a nonprofit volunteer group committed to improving the lives of…More Contra Costa County residents in need, purchased the historic Way Side Inn in central Lafayette for use as a thrift shop. In 1980 a costume rental section was added and, despite a fire that put them out of business briefly that year, the Way Side Inn thrift store thrives to this day, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Assistance League each year.
The league recently celebrated the Centennial Anniversary of the Way Side Inn with an open house, and though the costume rental business has been discontinued, the store remains a popular hunting ground for local bargain hunters. Money, the store raises goes directly into the Assistance League fund and is used to help county residents in need.
