No amount of $$ can make this poor girl whole. The district ignored her complaints and she suffered…Read More terrible sexual abuse for years while the district covered up the failures of its administrators.

Incredibly bad decision making by the superintendent and the Board caused innumerable grief to a lot…Read More of families. Let us not forget those responsible and remember that eventually money will be paid by Moragans. The insurance company have settled this amount, but guess whose premiums is going up? You can't spin or sugarcoat this pig!

Fault was proven as the school district did not prevent or stop this abuse by reporting this violent…Read More and damaging act of sexual abuse as expressed in the statement. Each time we see a story of unimaginable horror we ask first, did anyone know and not act? We may not all be saints.....but we are NOT all victims of sexual abuse- my respect goes to all who have worked to evercome such devastating harm.

No "Harlem Shake" video? Well that was an opportunity wasted.

A dog park in Lafayette has been discussed by the Parks Department for years. Carol Singer, Parks…Read More Commissioner always expresses interest but it never goes beyond talking. Parks is in the midst of a major review of CIP projects, email Council or Parks and let them know you want a dog park now! Funding is available, we just need to convince parks this is a priority.

Hey Paula you don't get it. It doesn't matter what happened. #1 School property is not an off leash…Read More location. School district insurance doesn't cover such thing. And yes this is a big liability issue. Dogs! Do not belong on CAMPUS! It really is not hard to understand however if one can't grasp why this is a bad idea they probably should not have a dog in their stewardship either.

Best course of action is a swift kick to any unleashed dog that approaches your child. Don't want…Read More your dog to receive a kick then don't let it be off-leash.

How is it that Acalanes High does not make it yet Campo and Miramonte do?

A mandated reporter is not restricted to the chain of command...but did she know her legal…Read More responsibility? Was she even properly informed by the District? I don't know, but imagine having to report a colleague when you have not personally observed the offensive behavior. It is a big deal. I have no easy answer.

If Orinda Mom is correct, that is all teachers are mandated reporters, why did she not go to the…Read More police or child services when she determined that the school/district was not listening to her. Is a mandated reporter limited to who they can contact about possible abuse? If so there is something wrong with the law.

@ Albert: I'll bet you're out of sight and earshot of the College.
Death and Taxes March 27, 2013 at 08:21 pm
lovelafayette...I do not think that Moraga residents pretend that the college does not exist. I…Read More have seen nothing but pride in the college and many residents support events on the campus. I also see a significant number of Alumni who settle in Moraga.
I do agree with Albert regarding the complaints from neighbors (and also think those that complain are a minority). Yes...the grounds have changed over the years, but one should expect such change when buying a home next to a campus. If I chose to buy a home next to a college, I do it knowing that there are loud parties from time to time and bright lights from events. It is a college with student activity.

Albert, I am well aware of airport analogies, but five years ago there were no serious problems.…Read More The sound increased dramatically when they recently decided to place more emphasis on using the fields to the east. And those lights they put up without public comment are very recent and point directly into several houses at the start of the Bluffs. How would you like to have stadium lights suddenly erected that light up your house at night? Its easy to pass judgement when you are not the one impacted. I hope your quick judgement and bigotry are not representative of St. Mary's students, and their administration probably hope that also.

Johnny-Stop drinking the KoolAid. Your response is misguided and naive. See what is being taught in…Read More Phys Ed in public schools. It has nothing to do with real fitness. If you think PS can make your kids fit in the few actual minutes they do something, You are a fool. There is no "seed" being cultivated there. It is largely, time that should be devoted doing something productive regarding the 3R's + History.
Get out early and workout on your own. I am not interested in watering down the productive school time with Michelle Obama's nonsense.
Think about it. We have gone from Presidential Physical Fitness (JFK started this) goals and real testing to "Let's Move". Pathetic. It is the parents problem . Not the schools and I refuse to accept the excuses you predictably run to.

315 units on that lot fits within the zoning requirements?? How is that possible?
lovelafayette March 23, 2013 at 12:23 pm
Lafayette city administration created this mess when they failed to change the zoning (it was…Read More discussed for years) before this project was submitted, and then tried to change it after the fact. This project fits within the zoning requirements. Property owners have the right to make a profit on their property. Take your complaints to Steve Falk, Lafayette City Manager. This is not a property owner or developer problem but an example of poor city management and government. Do not waste any more tax payers $ fighting a loosing battle! The Terraces will be built, the city should be trying to benefit from the developement. Look to Orinda and Wilder to see what benefits a savy city can reap from developement (among other perks Orinda got some amazing PUBLIC lighted sports fields built at Wilder).

Dear Mr Baker:
The reason I reacted the way I did was that your comment seemed extraordinarily…Read More aggressive, especially in a school newspaper. You could just have said "Ultimately, I believe the project will be approved but it may take litigation to get there". As it is, your quote looks like a not very well disguised attempt to intimidate the City.
As I understand it, it is still relatively early in the process of review for the proposed project, although the recently certified Environmental Impact Report makes clear that there are multiple significant reasons for the City to deny approval. Therefore I would certainly be very interested in understanding why you think litigation is inevitable: thank you for your offer to explain. Perhaps you could post your explanation here, where it will reach a larger audience?
