We don't know if he owner intentionally led with his decor. The reporter could have asked "when…Read More will you open and what's it going to look like?"
Let's not jump to conclusions about the owner's priorities based on how the writer chose to present and edit the info.

I wish people on this page would look into the ways that "property rights" have been…Read More trumped by the American value of preserving historic landmarks time and time again throughout our land.
Respect for our history trumps property rights sometimes - and if Vierra hadn't slithered in so quickly to destroy the Dome, just because he could, he'd have found that out. Of course, that's why he demolished it before anyone could make a move.

The city of Lafayette has a lot of nerve asking for grant money when they have committed to WASTING…Read More $342,000 on the environmental destruction of Bluebird Hill in the Lafayette Community Park. The proposal ($120,000 already spent) would build BMX dirt jumps on that slope, to benefit 10 middle school kids! The remaining $222,000 could be redirected to bike projects that benefit all bicyclists in town and make it safe to bike in Lafayette. A. Parker: Thank you for that presentation. It has interesting things. Anyway, Rancho Laguna II…Read More for Rheem is on page 19 of that presentation. I know they use the same name as the "dog park" for whatever reason, but they are separate. The town link for it is at http://www.moraga.ca.us/dept/planning/Major%20Projects/rancho-laguna-ii-subdivision .
L. Curmudgeon: Elton John also did a version of "Pinball Wizard" as you can quickly find out on Wikipedia or youtube. So I am not wrong. However, I probably should have referred to The Who because their version was far superior. Elton Johns' was rather uninspiring. Also, about the roundabout, I think for cars it might be a good idea. However, I cannot imagine navigating one with two kids on their bikes. At the current intersection the cars have to stop. But with a roundabout they would only slow down. I have zero experience trying to bike through one but my imagination is telling me it would be a bad idea.

Have you ever needed to hide who you are to "conform" to a code that discriminates against you?? Open your eyes and your mind up a little bit and put yourself in this kid's shoes. Eric, previously I suggested to your wife on Patch, that you would all be better off just boycotting…Read More the Scouts, and letting their intolerance speak for itself, and let them wither over time because they will not change.
I was wrong. Your timing is propitious. The tide of public opinion is turning, and your family's courage is inspirational. What a lot of crap you must endure for simple human dignity! As you indicated, BSA is changing slowly and grudgingly and continuing pressure is required. It is an exciting time for civil rights in this country and as far afield as New Zealand.
All of our sons and daughters, gay and straight, are in your debt for your willingness to stand proud.
I stand by my kids!!

CN. As boys reach puberty generally between 11 to 13 years of age and the qualifying ages for…Read More Scouting is between 11 and 18, it seems that most of the sexual predators that lurk in Scouting are technically "ephebophiles" (preference for post-pubescent victims) rather than pedophiles.
I have looked into this and it appears the most vulnerable are boys between 11-13. Reaching puberty does not disqualify a boy from innocence. I feel that the vast majority of young males,(11-17) scouts or not, are sexually naive and immature in terms of the attendant emotions and are thus easy targets for these disgusting criminals. Add in the paramilitary elements of rank progression and the unquestioned authority of those in control, and the predator has an embarrassingly easy environment to act out their aberrant behaviors when they find they are trusted without question.
However you want to classify these perverted aberrants, the facts are that scouting has failed miserably to honor and protect the innocent trust and safety of these young people by creating an environment that sets them up for attacks. For years BSA would not even recognize there was a problem and when they did, they attempted to cover it up instead of prosecuting the perpetrators and setting up guidelines designed to make such behavior difficult to accomplish.
They only acted when they were forced to, and what does that say about their integrity and character.

As for any traffic concerns, I would imagine that amphitheater events at the proposed site wouldn't…Read More be any worse than a basketball game at St. Mary's. The bigger problem would probably be NIMBYs objecting to any amplified noise (or would there just be acoustic jamz there?) -- a la Moraga Commons.
In other NIMBY news, where on this site can I complain about the proposed BMX park in Lafayette Community Park? Patch is missing out on some sure-fire page hits!

"bah humbug" If there is a problem at the cross walk at the Lafayette Community Center…Read More then it is time for a stoplight.
Many of the winery amphitheaters that I know of have capacities between 1,500 and 2,500. The Mt. Winery in Saratoga (2,500 cap) has no nearby highways and has only one main road from downtown Saratoga through a "bedroom community". Even at 2,500 capacity venue it would not a significant amount of traffic through the four corridors leading into Moraga especially if ticketing were done on a local sales basis where LaMorindian's had a priority purchase.
I think a winery venue would be a wonderful addition to our LaMorinda community and would be able to ensure others could be gainfully employed in the events industry, It would also be nice boost for all the restaurants and stores throughout our three cities..

Hey Ann - just for the record Tenured teachers are fired - it simply requires more than a parent…Read More complaint or sports team coach angry that half his team failed to meet minimum required inclass performance and can't play in the big game. Read the article....unbelievable....it's all about how to suck away more of the precious few dollars…Read More that public schools do have to operate. And foolish school administrators will buy into this because they are -- foolish. Kids do not need more technology in school. They need better teachers. Better teachers need higher pay. Higher pay could come from a more stable funding environment. Taxpayers would pay more for schools if there were better teachers. It's a circular argument that will not be solved by more technology. It will be solved only when the teachers' unions become willing to eliminate tenure and seniority firings. If I could do it again, I would have put my kids through private school.

I already mentioned it before, but these things look like such an ecological disaster that if they…Read More build it, they should call it "Madagascar Park" after the massive erosion going on there. http://northbaybmx.com/ great local photo ops. Primary purpose BMX racing, air but never stunts. Non-racing times for general riding, MTB and BMX, even training wheel area. I asked if I was too old and the adult volunteer said no one is to old or too young, but the part I could see was way too fast and furious. I imagine some of these kids went to the Sea Otter festival where those photos were taken.
