Lafayette Veterans Memorial Building

Flag as Inappropriate

Like the old soldiers it was built to honor and serve, Lafayette's modern Veteran's Memorial Building was forged from tough times, hard work and sweat equity.

The legacy of two older buildings built between World War I and II to provide a place for veterans from Lafayette and Walnut Creek, the current Veteran's Memorial Building was erected in honor of local service members who gave their lives in the service of their country.

The Lafayette War Veterans, a nonprofit veterans organization incorporated in 1958, serves as the governing body for the building and makes the decisions regarding its use. It exists, they say, to maintain a living memorial to all those veterans who served and are still and to remember the "valor and sacrifice of those that gave us all of their tomorrows."

The business arm of the veteran's group ensures that a location for the business meetings of each Veterans Service Organization exists and makes it possible for members of the general public to meet at the building for a wide variety of non-veteran events.
