The Weekender: Parenting Advice, Rose Pruning, Home Expo

Some of the activities happening this weekend in Lamorinda

As you plan your weekend, here's some of the activities happening in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon.

On Thursday evening, 
New York Times best-selling author will discuss successful parenting.

The talk by Madeline Levine, author of "Teach Your Children Well," begins at 7 p.m. in the performing arts center at Acalanes High School, 1200 Pleasant Hill Road in Lafayette.

Levine will discuss why values and coping skills matter more than grades and trophies.

On Friday morning, a seminar on living with Parkinson's disease will be held.

The discussion by physical therapist Anne Randolph is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Elderberry Room of the Lafayette Community Center.

Cost is $1 for members and $3 for non-members

On Saturday morning, a workshop on winter rose pruning will be held.

The seminar begins at 10 a.m. at McDonnell Nursery, 196 Moraga Way in Orinda.

An expert will discuss how to rejuvenate rose bushes during this season.

On Sunday, home expo with remodelers, builders and designers will be held.

The Lamorinda Home Expo '14 is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building, 3780 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette.

The event is geared toward homeowners who are remodeling or updating their homes.

On Sunday afternoon, a concert of Broadway hits will be performed by baritone David Auerbach with an instrumental ensemble.

"Auerbach on Broadway" begins at 4 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1035 Carol Lane in Lafayette.
