The Weekender: Girl Scout Camp Hike, Blessing Of The Animals, Olive Festival

A recap of the activities happening in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda this weekend

Some of the events happening from Thursday evening to Sunday evening in the Lamorinda area.

On Thursday evening, 
experts from the Oakland Museum will come to the Lafayette Library and Learning Center at 6:30 p.m. to talk about their latest exhibit, "Above and Below: Stories From Our Changing Bay."

The discussion will focus on how climate change, rising sea levels and wetland restoration affect San Francisco Bay.

On Friday morning,
 a blood drive will be held, beginning at 8:15 a.m. at Burton Valley Elementary School in Lafayette.

There is high school football on Friday evening.

Miramonte High travels to Moraga to take on undefeated Campolindo High at 7 p.m.

Acalanes High travels to Walnut Creek to battle Las Lomas High, also starting at 7 p.m.

Also on Friday evening, the premiere of the film "Assault on El Capitan" will be shown at 8 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

The film details an attempt to scale the most dangerous climbing route in Yosemite National Park.

On Saturday morning, a hike-a-thon to raise money to preserve the Twin Canyon Girl Scout Camp in Lafayette will be held.

The event is from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Camp Twin Canyon, adjacent to Briones Regional Park.

There are one-hour and two-hour hikes. Participants must be at least 12 years old.

Also on Saturday morning, officials from the Contra Costa County Library will hold a town hall meeting at 10:30 a.m. at the Orinda Community Center to discuss how the library can better serve their town. 

Also on Saturday morning, the Lafayette Nursery School will hold its 60th anniversary celebration.

Alumni are invited to attend the festivities at the school, located at 979 First St.

On Sunday morning, a blessing of the animals will take place at St. Mary's College in Moraga.

The blessing begins at 11 a.m. after the Sunday morning service.

On Sunday afternoon, the 4th Annual Olive Festival will be held, beginning at 1 p.m. at Wagner Ranch Nature Area, 350 Camino Pablo in Orinda.

The event raises money for outdoor education for children. They'll be cooking demonstrations, olive tasting, music and art.
