The Weekender: Film Festival, Children's Choir Concert, Garage Tour

Here are some of the events happening in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda this weekend

As you plan your weekend, here are some of the things going on in Lamorinda from Thursday to Sunday.

On Thursday evening, the California Independent Film Festival will begin.

Film will be shown at the New Rheem Theatre in Moraga and the Orinda Theatre in downtown Orinda.

The opening ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rheem Theatre. The festival runs through Sunday.

Also on Thursday evening, a chief executive officer will speak on responsible leadership.

The talk by Paul Gaffney, CEO of AAA Northern California, will begin at 5:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s College, 1928 St. Mary’s Road, Moraga.

Also on Thursday evening, panel will discuss the basics of self publishing books, poetry and other literature.

The discussion of Self Publishing 101 begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

Also on Thursday evening, classic guitarist Peter Fletcher will perform, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary’s Road.

On Saturday morning, a children's choir concert will be held.

The performance begins at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's College, 1928 St. Mary's Road in Moraga.

Conductor Patrick Flahive will lead three California children's choirs.

On Saturday evening, a grand opening will be held for the Lafayette Art Gallery at its new location.

The reception is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the gallery, 3420 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

The event will also be the premiere of the gallery's new exhibit, "The Heart of Art," which will run through Dec. 28.

On Sunday afternoon, a tour of Lafayette garages will be held.

The tour begins at 1 p.m. Blodgett's Flooring, 3291 Mt. Diablo Court.

The event is sponsored by the Lafayette Community Foundation. The purpose is to showcase some of the "dream garages" in town.
