The Weekender: Cat Ballou, Pajama Jam, Movie For Girls

Here are some of the events happening in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda this weekend

As you plan your weekend, here are events happening in the Lamorinda area from Thursday evening to Sunday evening.

On Thursday evening, the movie “Cat Ballou” will be shown and discussed in Moraga.

The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary’s Road.

Also on Thursday evening, a preschool fair for parents will be held in Lafayette.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Athletic Club, 4000 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

The fair is sponsored by the Lamorinda Moms organization.

Also on Thursday evening, Lafayette Mayor Mike Anderson will deliver a “State of the City” address.

The session begins at 7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 3780 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

The event is sponsored by the Lafayette Homeowners Council.

Also on Thursday evening, a new theatrical production will debut in Moraga.

“And When We Awoke There Was LIght and Light” begins at 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s College, 1928 St. Mary’s Road.

It’s the West Coast premiere of the play.

On Saturday morning, the Fall 2013 Pajama Jam will be held in Moraga.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Rheem Theatre, 350 Park St.

Kids of all ages are invited to wear pajamas to the circus party that includes games, activities, a circus clown and a photo booth.

The jam is sponsored by the Moraga Junior Women's Club.

Also on Saturday morning, New York Times’ best selling author will speak in Orinda.

New York Times columnist Mark Leibovich’s talk on his book “This Town” begins at 11 a.m. at Orinda Community Church, 10 Irwin Way.

The discussion will center on Leibovich’s observations on life in Washington, D.C.

On Sunday evening, Stanley Girl Scout Troop 31488 will host a movie that examines the life of middle school girls.

The film, "Finding Kind," will begin at 4 p.m. in the Student Performing Art Center at Bentley High School, 1000 Upper Happy Valley Road in Lafayette.

The film will be shown again at 7 p.m. Thursday in the same location.

The documentary explores the turmoil and emotional scars caused by girls mistreating each other and what society can do to solve the problem.

Also on Sunday evening, a battlefield guide will discuss why President Lincoln visited Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in November 1863.

The discussion by retired military officer John Fitzpatrick begins at 9 p.m. in the Community Hall at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

The event is sponsored by the Lafayette Historical Society.
