Blood Drives, Wines and Pears, Football And More This Weekend In Lamorinda

A list of events in Lamorinda as you prepare for the weekend

Friday, Sept. 27

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive in Lafayette on Friday afternoon. The event is from noon to 5 p.m. at the Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department, 500 St. Mary's Road.

On Friday evening, two undefeated high school football teams will meet at Acalanes High School. The Dons will host Campolindo High. Both teams have 4-0 records this season. The game begins at 7 p.m.

Also on Friday evening, the Miramonte High football team will play at home against Dublin High. The Matadors are 3-1 while Dublin High is 2-2. The game begins at 7 p.m.

The Orinda Starlight Village Players will present the Edgar Allen Poe's play, "Escape to Bedlam" at 8:30 p.m. at the Orinda Community Center Park Amphitheater, 26 Orinda Way.

Saturday, Sept. 28

The annual Pear and Wine Festival will be held in Moraga. The event is from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. at Moraga Commons Park, 1425 St. Mary's Road.

A blood drive will also be held in Moraga. The American Red Cross event is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church, 10 Moraga Valley Lane.

Also on Saturday, the Las Trampas Foundation Inc. will host its 4th Annual Walk 'N' Roll in Lafayette. The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and begins at the foundation's offices, 3460 Lana Lane. It features a 1-mile and 5-kilometer fun walk/roll/run to support the foundation's programs.

And in Orinda on Saturday the Third Annual Orinda Jazz Festival will be held at the Orinda Library Auditorium & Courtyard from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Two stages will be set up. The featured musician is Jason Marsalis.

Sunday, Sept. 29

The Second Annual Lafayette Creek Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will meet at Leigh Creekside Park at the corner of Moraga Road and 4th Street. Volunteers will be removing invasive vegetation and trash from Las Trampas Creek.

The film, "More Than Honey," will be shown at 2 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center. The film examines why the bee population is declining worldwide. It's sponsored by the Lafayette Community Garden. It's part of the Sustainable Lafayette Film Festival.
