The Week Ahead: Housing Development, North Pole Puppet Show, Winter Instrumental Concert

Some of the meetings and events happening this week in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda

On Monday evening, the Lafayette Planning Commission and Design Review Commission will hold a joint study session.

The half-hour meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the community hall at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

On the agenda is a discussion of Lennar Homes' proposal to build 70 condominiums, a restaurant and commercial offices at the northwest corner of Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Dolores Drive.

The developer unveiled the plans for city leaders and residents in September and heard a number of concerns from those who attended the meeting.

Also on Monday evening, the Lafayette Planning Commission will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

That meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the community hall at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

On the agenda is a proposal to establish a preschool for 37 children in an existing building next to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1035 Carol Lane.

Also on Monday evening, the Moraga Planning Commission will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary's Road.

On the agenda is the proposal by SummerHill Homes to build 26 single-family homes in the Camino Ricardo subdivision.

On Tuesday morning, the Orinda Union School District board of education will hold a special meeting to visit one of the district's school sites.

The meeting is from 10 a.m. to noon at Sleepy Hollow Elementary School, 20 Washington Lane.

On Tuesday afternoon, a holiday puppet show for children will be presented.

The performance of The North Pole Review begins at 4 p.m. at the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary's Road.

On Tuesday evening, the Orinda City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Orinda Library, 26 Orinda Way.

On the agenda is a proposal to raise the monthly solid waste disposal rates by an average of 1.5 percent for homes and businesses.

Also on Tuesday evening, the Acalanes Performing Arts will present its 2013 Winter Choral Concert.

The performance by the Choral Music Department begins at 7 p.m. at the Acalanes High Performing Arts Center, 1200 Pleasant Hill Road in Lafayette.

Also on Tuesday evening, a winter instrumental concert will be presented.

The performance by the Miramonte Symphonic Band, String Orchestra and Jazz Ensembles begins at 7 p.m. in the Miramonte High School Theater, 750 Moraga Way in Orinda.

On Wednesday afternoon, a Berkeley Rep Docent will discuss the stage show "Tristan & Yseult."

The lecture begins at 2 p.m. in the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary's Road.

On Wednesday evening, the Moraga-Orinda Fire District board of directors will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary's Road.

On the agenda are resolutions fixing the district's contribution to medical and hospital care as well as a new investment policy for district funds.

On Thursday evening, traditional winter folk songs will be presented.

The performance by autoharp player Adam Miller begins at 6 p.m. in the community hall at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

Also on Thursday evening, the Acalanes Performing Arts will present its 2013 Winter Choral Concert.

The performance by the Choral Music Department begins at 7 p.m. at the Acalanes High Performing Arts Center, 1200 Pleasant Hill Road in Lafayette.

On Friday evening, an interactive tour of Jesus' birthplace will be presented.

The Bethlehem Experience begins at 5:30 p.m. at Lafayette United Methodist Church, 955 Moraga Road.

Groups of 10 people will be given tours of a re-enactment of the Bethlehem marketplace at the time of Christ's birth.

Also on Friday evening, a candlelight Christmas service will be held.

"Light Up Your December" begins at 7 p.m. at Refuge Community Church, 155 Moraga Road in Moraga.
