The Week Ahead: Lafayette Terraces Lawsuit, East Bay Wines, "Kite Runner" Author

Some of the meetings and events happening this week in Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda

On Monday evening, a night of star gazing will be presented.

The Mount Diablo Astronomical Society will bring telescopes to the amphitheater in the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3941 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

There will also be an explanation of what happened to the comet ISON as it sailed past the sun on Thanksgiving Day.

The event will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Also on Monday evening, the Lafayette School District will host a forum on kindergarten readiness.

The "Roadmap to Kindergarten" begins at 6 p.m. at Happy Valley Elementary School, 3855 Happy Valley Road.

Also on Monday evening, the Lafayette City Council will hold a special meeting.

The session begins at 7 p.m. in the community hall at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

On the agenda is a proposal from City Manager Steven Falk to settle potential litigation involving The Terraces project. The developer of the 315-apartment complex has threatened to sue over a negative environmental impact report.

The council will also select a new mayor and vice mayor for 2014.

Also on Monday evening, the Orinda School District board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. 

On the agenda is the selection of a new board president for 2014 as well as an interim report on the district's 2013-2014 finances.

On Tuesday afternoon, an armchair tour of Lafayette's public art will be presented.

The session begins at 2 p.m. in the community hall at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

A representative of the Lafayette Public Art Committee will discuss the 40 or so public displays of art around the city.

On Tuesday evening, a celebration of East Bay wines will be held.

The discussion begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd.

Also on Tuesday evening, the Moraga school district board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School, 1010 Camino Pablo.

On the agenda is the selection of a new board president for 2014.

On Wednesday evening, the Moraga Town Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School, 1010 Camino Pablo.

On the agenda is the selection of a new mayor and vice mayor for 2014.

Also on Wednesday evening, the Lafayette School District board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the district offices, 3477 School St.

On the agenda is the election of a new board president for 2014 as well as adoption of the 2014-2015 school calendar.

Also on Wednesday evening, the Acalanes Union High School board of education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the district offices, 1212 Pleasant Hill Road.

On Friday evening, a forum with the author of "The Kite Runner" will be held.

The session with Khaled Hosseini begins at 6 p.m. at the Acalanes High School Theatre, 1200 Pleasant Hill Road.

On Saturday morning, a free holiday crafts program for teenagers will be held.

The session begins at 11 a.m. at the Moraga Library, 1500 St. Mary's Road.

On Saturday afternoon, a snow-filled celebration will be held in Orinda.

The holiday celebration is from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Orinda Theatre Square.

The festivities will include trucked-in snow for children as well as horse and carriage rides.
