More Than 5,000 Pounds Of Food Collected in Orinda Campaign

Donation barrels were placed at schools and on city streets for the first phase of the drive to help the Solano Contra Costa Food Bank

The first phase of a food drive in Orinda has produced more than 5,000 pounds of canned goods.

Collection barrels for the "Cans for a Cause" drive were placed on city streets, the Orinda Union School District office and four local schools.

Republic Services, formerly Allied Waste Services, matched the donated goods, bringing the total to 5,582 pounds of food.

The donations were delivered to The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano by Republic Services employees.

The second phase of the food drive will be held from Feb. 3 to Feb. 14 at Glorietta Elementary School.
