Behind The Sign

What does it mean to be a part of a community? That's a question I have struggled to answer these past few years. We all have the desire to belong, dreams to accomplish & obstacles to overcome to achieve both.

This past year has been a huge change for me, going from being a Health Care Administrator and Assistant Outreach Coordinator for a healthcare practice to starting a family and being a full time stay at home mom. Working for an amazing company, with amazing co-workers, great leaders and Doctors to be proud of really gave me a sense of community. It was more than a paycheck, or a stepping stone to what would come next.

My husband and I were ready to start a family, but knew from the beginning that I would be staying home. There is no doubt in my mind that putting 'my career on hold' was the perfect decision for us, and I wouldn't trade telling my baby boy to not eat flowers for that beige cubby. (Notice the tone change there?) 

Now with a little spare time on my hands between my son's long naps and an early bed time I am hoping to help enhance my community. I am blessed to be living in a wonderful town called Lafayette that is just outside San Francisco. This affluent little commuter town is full of local businesses, well funded community programs and plenty of free events for kids, families and professionals.

Behind every sign there is a person who dreamt of company, made sacrifices for it to happen, and are breathing life into their town, asking the people to give back. Yelp tells you an individuals experience at an establishment, but not always who you'll meet when you get there. I want to know my neighbor, discover my town and build a community.
