Mountain Man Spotted On Moraga Way

Okay, who saw the guy with the three pack animals moseying along Moraga Way Sunday, hmmm?

Lamorinda Patch gets snapshots of sporting events and bank robberies but you'd think a guy walking down Moraga Way with three pack animals in tow would draw more attention.

We've had a number of inquiries about this gentleman, who apparently was clip- clopping down Moraga Way toward Orinda about noon Sunday, but it appears he disappered into the sunset without so much as a howdy-do to us town folk.

Anyone with any knowledge of his intentions, or if he's working a mine somewhere up in the hills, drop us a line in the comments field. And our thanks to Steve Cohn for posting the only, albeit still very mysterious photo of the Man With No Name.

If anyone got a picture of this blast from the past, we'd appreciate it if you'd post it.

I saw him about 10:45 a.m. on Sunday -- he was headed west on the south side of Canyon Road where it meets Country Club Drive. He was leading a team of what looked to be three fully-laden pack mules. I assumed he had been to the Safeway to stock up on provisions and was headed up to the backcountry near Canyon...

In any event, a refreshing change from the usual weekend vista there of bicyclists riding $10,000 bicycles while wearing froo-froo outfits.

Hilarious line Andrew. I saw him on Saturday on PH Rd near the intersection with Olympic and then on Sunday on Moraga Way. Hi animals looked well fed, he......not so much. He seems to be crisscrossing around. Interesting. Looks like something out of a John Steinbeck novel.

I heard that he had FOUR (not three) mules when he entered town, but found one missing after leaving them tied up near Starbucks while he got a venti half-cafe frappuccino.

I saw him twice! Once near St. Mary's Road at Bollinger Canyon and later going down Camino Pablo in front of JM, heading southeast, toward Rancho Laguna. I really wish I had snapped a photo.

Was the horse's name Cervelo (sorry Larry) Attached is a scratchy (a la Sasquatch) photo of the "old guy" heading north on Camino Pablo at Hwy 24 at 2:00 yesterday (with three beautifully rigged pack horses). Nice to know there are REAL characters still out there. Sorry I was not quicker with my "phone cam" but best he remains a blurry vision.

He's been through the desert on a horse with no name. He felt good to be out of the rain.

i just saw a guy on Moraga road near the old library with three shopping carts overburdened with stuff, probably heading to the creek to settle in for a hot day out of the sun!

Bikes are better than cars and horses are better than both. I love this....

This is a good story. We need mountain men. I am guessing that Mountain Man has a lower tax rate that W. Mitt Romney, but who knows?

Great picture and the whole story made me smile.

If this is the same guy a friend of mine let him stay the nite on their property. They fed him and his mules. Said he was a really nice guy. They also got some shoes for his mules. Bless him and may he always have the man above watching over him and taking care of him. This was in Gilroy, he left this morning the 24th of August.
