Sheriff's Deputies in Butte and Glenn counties have launched an air and ground search for a missing Lafayette man who reportedly walked away from friends during a tubing trip down the Sacramento River Sunday.
Brett Olson, 20, went missing during the annual Chico Float down the Sacramento, a popular outing for Chico State students. Olson was last seen around 3 p.m. Sunday when he walked away from a group of friends at a popular "haul-out" point called Beer Can Beach. The Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student travelled to Chico to be with friends over the Labor Day weekend.

Police have been looking for Olson with aircraft and a ground search and plan to scan the areas near Ord Bend Park north toward Beer Can Beach today, Tuesday. A person matching Olson's general description was reportedly spotted in the Pine Creek Wilderness and a search of that area is also being planned.
A Glenn County Sheriff's dispatcher said Wave Runners are currently searching the riverbanks where Olson's float group was last seen.
