Lafayette Man Reported Missing During Labor Day Tubing Excursion

Brett Olson, a Lafayette resident and 2010 graduate of Acalanes High School, is the subject of an intense search along the Sacramento River after a weekend tubing trip with friends.

Sheriff's Deputies in Butte and Glenn counties have launched an air and ground search for a missing Lafayette man who reportedly walked away from friends during a tubing trip down the Sacramento River Sunday.

Brett Olson, 20, went missing during the annual Chico Float down the Sacramento, a popular outing for Chico State students. Olson was last seen around 3 p.m. Sunday when he walked away from a group of friends at a popular "haul-out" point called Beer Can Beach. The Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student travelled to Chico to be with friends over the Labor Day weekend.

Police have been looking for Olson with aircraft and a ground search and plan to scan the areas near Ord Bend Park north toward Beer Can Beach today, Tuesday. A person matching Olson's general description was reportedly spotted in the Pine Creek Wilderness and a search of that area is also being planned.

A Glenn County Sheriff's dispatcher said Wave Runners are currently searching  the riverbanks where Olson's float group was last seen.

Olson is described as 6' - 6'2" tall, 150-160 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes. Friends ask that you call the Glenn County Sheriff's Office at (530) 934-6431 if you have information as to his whereabouts.
