Video: How to Make the Perfect "Fourth of July Apple Pie"

Moraga resident Joan Edelsohn has dominated the baking contests at the California State Fair for years, only recently passing on her secrets and the baker's torch to daughter Sierra. We haul an old video out of the vault for this Fourth of July par

Moragan Joan Edelsohn likes to bake for her family, and that skill has evolved into some great home-concocted recipes that Joan decided to enter in the annual baking contest at the California State Fair.

She started to win. A lot. And pretty soon she was a one-woman baking dynasty, winning successive years with her home-baked apple pie before turning the apple pie recipe over to daughter Sierra so she could go on to other things. Well, Sierra's apple pie took first place honors at the fair last year, and Joan picked up a number of new ribbons with her Chocolate Velvet Cheesecake.

This Mother/Daughter baking dynasty shows no sign of slowing.  Their Moraga kitchen is filled with great aromas from their latest experiments and efforts, and they're experimenting with new recipes all the time. We asked Joan for something appropriate to debut this Fourth of July and she came up with – what else?  An all-American apple pie.

This is the first time Joan has done this on camera.  Her recipe is in her head, mostly, and very little of what she does is written down.  Perhaps with a little coaxing she'll send you printed instructions for what everyone who has tasted it says is... the best Apple Pie they've ever had!

Or you can just watch the video and take notes...
