Hey, Lamorinda Sk8tr Kids -- Time to Chill!

We build you a skate park and you... tag our property and pee on our landscaping. What's up with that?

Patch is getting a lot of feedback lately from residents, mostly in Moraga, who are fed up with the antics of a small but mouthy group of kids who have already been kicked out of most public venues and are now prowling the neighborhoods at night -- and getting into trouble.

The group, boys and girls, get around by skateboard and have told at least one Patcher that they no longer have a place to skate since they were banned from the Moraga skate park, and a couple of local pools, so they cruise the neighborhoods at night looking for hills.

That in itself wouldn't be so bad but the kids, ranging in age from 10 years to about 16, have been seen standing in the road daring passing cars to hit them in Rheem Valley Manor and shouting profanities at drivers who advise them to clear the road.

Patchers report the same group has been spotted on Alta Mesa, Moraga Road, Fernwood Drive and Ascot Drive and have left a trail of used spraypaint cans and broken padlocks in their wake.

Locals say the group is good at provoking confrontation and has regularly insulted older persons who have asked them to respect their property. Not a major crime wave, to be sure, and part of the "suburban sk8te punk" culture, but perhaps mom and dad could rein the little darlings in before someone gives them the public spanking they deserve.

It's getting crazy out there. Lafayette has become the Tenderloin with all those massage parlors. Sounds like Moraga has become the Bayview-Hunters Point. And, Orinda has been featured as Crazyville on the national news because of Leaf Blower rage. What are we going to do when the bath salts get here? Which city will be first on the zombie attack list!?

Seems like a little "Juvey time" is needed here.
Amy Chu June 14, 2012 at 08:25 pm
How late are these kids out?
Amanda June 14, 2012 at 09:23 pm
I know many of you remember the Rheem Rats. Maybe they have taken to the streets since Fudge Alley closed.
Shon Sherwood June 14, 2012 at 10:01 pm
Why would you ban skater punks from a skate park? Isn't that like banning gangsters from a basketball court? You didn't expect an increase in crime? These sorts of locations are designed to get kids off the street and into recreational settings. You don't go ban them from those settings because they're misbehaving: they're just going to go misbehave somewhere else.

Out of curiosity, who made the decision to attach this video?
While I certainly believe that these kids should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, this YouTube clip is highly inappropriate. (And, for the large number of whiners who troll these threads I'll state again - these kids should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.) But, this video is "The PROPER Way To Deal With Trespassing Skateboard Punks? Seriously? Run down a 10 year old and bash him in the head with a skateboard? Really?!? And the last sentence. Creepy, weird, and possibly a crime. Better idea: If mom and dad can't rein the kids in, then you call the police & have the little darlings arrested.

Yes, we certainly aren't recommending that you get in your mall cop golf cart and chase down boarders tearing up your landscaping. It was a fantasy presented in the movie and appealing, perhaps, to those who have encountered a deliberately provocative group pushing the boundaries of logic and civility for reasons known only to them. Meant as a bit of fun. Call me dark.
Mack Sennet June 15, 2012 at 01:18 pm
JD - Perhaps some of your commenters are just being "dark" when they leave comments that don't meet approval. Leading is always the best way to elicit better behavior.

I'll try to remember that "Mack," thank you.

What is the "official" curfew in Lamorinda?
Nicholas June 15, 2012 at 02:33 pm
There's a curfew in Lamorinda???

Seriously? The Moraga PD cannot identify and prosecute a gang of 10 year olds? Let's help them out by posting some names and pics on Patch. The police really need to take an active role now. Toss a few in Juvenille Hall and that will be the end of the Moraga Morons gang. However, be prepared for the outcry of parents as historically the only way for a Lamorinda kid to get into jail is to kill someone! Lafayette ignored a similar problem with BMX brats, never involved the police and sustained $50,000 in vandalism to the Community Park. Parks director Jennifer Russell gave in to BMX blackmail, agreed to destroy more parkland and build a BMX park! So far no park has been approved by the City Council, BUT $320,000 in park fees has been wasted on exploring the idea! The original BMX vandals have left (maybe a few even went to work or college?), few BMX seen in town anymore (maybe parents read about brain damage associated with the sport), but this stupid park idea persists and money continues to pour into the coffers of the developer HILRIDE instead of park improvement.

....."banning gangsters from a basketball court?" Why can't they be, oh I don't know... Basketball players? Your use of the word "gangsters" in relation to basketball makes me raise an eyebrow of how well you cope with diversity--probably just as well as the majority of Lamorinda.
Shon Sherwood June 21, 2012 at 08:14 pm
In my example they are gangsters. Gangsters that are playing basketball. They are not by my definition basketball players because I'm not stating something specific about basketball players in general. I'm only talking about gangsters.

Mrs. Renno?????? its not the Rheem Rats, they have cars/are too stoned to be annoying. ITS THE DEVIL!
Tyler Durden August 8, 2012 at 10:18 pm
Im fairly certain the majority of you commenting grew up during the Vietnam Era. If so, do you remember those scary people called the beats? Or those grimier, but lovelier kids known as hippies? Hated by your parents, secretly admired by yourself... Well, thats what you're looking at. Wall Street is not the future, our pretty planet is going to hell and your white collar lifestyles along with it.

@ Mack: "It's getting crazy out there". No, it isn't. A few small, isolated incidents do not damage the safety or reputation of Lafayette. Very little serious crime occurs here, and the majority of Lafayette residents who live in Lafayette for their entire lives will not be victims of any crime whatsoever. Get real, I hope you are not serious.
Tyler Durden September 10, 2012 at 02:55 am
It's obviously a joke, Anon... Chill out.
Tyler Durden September 10, 2012 at 02:56 am
I think it's 11, but the real goons don't creep until 12... ;)

On several occasions, I have seen 5-6 chickens pecking their way down their steep driveway on theRead More east side of Saint Mary's Road, very close to the Cattle Chute. I had not read this story earlier. On 6/3 or 6/4, I saw a black hen, alone, out in the road right at the point of the Moraga Commons. It was pecking the pavement on Moraga Road, as cars turning north from Saint Mary's Road were avoiding it. I hope the chicken crossed the road to the trail on the other side. Better yet, I hope it turned around and followed that trail right back to the Cattle Chute and home.
