Nate Schierholtz Traded to the Phillies

Schierholtz, who graduated from San Ramon Valley High, had spent his entire professional career with the San Francisco Giants.

Nate Schierholtz no longer plays baseball for the team he grew up rooting for.

The graduate was traded from the San Francisco Giants to the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday.

Schierholtz was part of a trade that landed the Giants Hunter Pence, a speedy power-hitting outfielder.

Schierholtz was drafted by the Giants in the second round of the 2003 draft and has played his enitre proffesional career with San Francisco. In his six years in the big leagues, Schierholtz hit .270 with 23 home runs. He was a member of the 2010 team that won the World Series.

With Schierhotlz not playing regularly this year, his relations with Giants management soured. Schierhotlz told the San Francisco Chronicle earlier this month that he felt marginalized and didn't have a future with the team.

"There's no place I'd rather play than here," Schierholtz told The Chronicle. "It's where I grew up. It's home to me. I love the fans. I love the city. There's not one thing I can't say I love about this place, but I think I've come to the realization that maybe I'm not their guy. I'm not in the cards having a future here."

The Danville native now heads to Philadelphia, which has failed to live up to lofty expectations this year. The Phillies are in last place in the National League East with a 45-57 record.

Sad to see Schierhotlz go? Did the Giants make a mistake or is Hunter Pence worth it? How do you think Schierhotlz will do in Philadelphia? Tell us in the comments section.

Hate to see Nate leave but for him it is probably the best move for him. For the most part, he has had few injuries and needs to be on a team that will allow him to get 500 ABs a year. I see he is hitting #2 tonight with Utley behind him. Hopefully he gets better pitches to hit also. He is a class act and wish him the best!

Jim - I couldn't agree more. Have know Nate and his family since Little League and always knew Nate would make the big leagues. Nate is a phenomenal ball player and person, and our family wishes him and his wife the best in Philly. Hate to see Nate leave the Bay Area but hopefully he will get the playing time that he has earned and deserves. Go Nate!!

Nate has been my favorite player since day 1. Such a class act on and off the field. I was pissed when I found out. But then I thought about it more and realized its sf's loss. We never appreciated how talented he was and we are blind for that! He is better off with a team that will give him allow him to play! Good luck nate! We will always miss u!
