Campolindo Crushes Miramonte, 38-10, In Football Showdown

Campolindo High took over the game midway through the second quarter and smashed Miramonte High, 38-10, on Friday night in a high-profile football battle.

Campolindo is now 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in league play. They have defeated both the Matadors and Acalanes High and have a leg up for the Diablo Foothill Athletic League title.

The Cougars play Las Lomas High next week in Walnut Creek.

Miramonte is now 4-2 and 1-1 in league play. They will play at home against Acalanes next Friday.

The Dons lost to Las Lomas 33-26 on Friday to fall to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in league.

Campolindo scored first on Friday night, putting the ball into the end zone just minutes into the game.

However, Miramonte drove the ball down the field for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7 with about eight minutes left in the first period.

The Matadors grabbed two interceptions off tipped passes later in the quarter, but they couldn't convert either into a touchdown.

They settled for a field goal near the end of the first quarter to take a 10-7 lead.

The teams traded punts to start the second quarter.

Miramonte then put on a long drive and appeared ready to score again when the Cougars intercepted the ball in the end zone.

Campolindo then went on a 7-play, 80-yard drive, capped by a long touchdown pass with 2:37 to go in the half and giving then a 14-10 lead.

Miramonte had to punt again after running three plays and Campolindo got the ball back with about two minutes to play.

The Cougars drove inside the 5-yard line, then settled for a field goal with 14 seconds left to take a 17-10 lead into the locker room.

The second half was all Campolindo.

Miramonte drove to about midfield on its first series in the third quarter, then punted. The Cougars then drove down the field again and scored on a 9-yard touchdown pass to make it 24-10.

They scored two more touchdowns while the Cougar defense held the Matadors scoreless in the second half.

There was high energy in the stands. Chants echoed from both sections of the filled-up stands.

Campolindo fans wore shirts that said "Stomp The Mats" and "Sweep The Mats."

Miramonte fans sported shirts that said "Cage The Cats" and "Beat Campo."
