Lamorinda Legends Return From Cooperstown With 9-1 Record

Legends lose in the semi-finals to Bulldogs of Santa Clarita - but left it all on the field and end the tourney in third place.

The Lamorinda Baseball Academy (LBA) Legends - representing the Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda (and Alameda) area - return from the Cooperstown Dreams Park Baseball Tournament with a 9-1 record afer losing in the semi-finals 7-6 to the Santa Clarita, Calif. Bulldogs. The game went into the last inning tied at 6-6. SCB loaded the bases with no outs and won the game on a walk off single up the middle.

The excitement wasn't limited to the last inning. After the Legends went down 1, 2, 3 to start the game, SCB jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The Legends got out of a bases loaded, 1 out situation with a slick double play started by SS Reid Gibbs to end the inning. The Legends got a run back in the second on some aggressive base running by Tyler Henderson, who scored on a wild pitch. SCB got another run in the second to to make it 4-1 going into the fourth. The Legends got new life in the in the inning when Tommy Henderson made contact and Alex Vick followed with a bomb into the wind to right field for a two-run homer.

Behind by one and with renewed energy, the Legends shut down SCB in the fourth. In the fifth and with out, Reid Gibbs and Tommy Nimura had base hits and were in scoring position when Max Flower ripped a double off the wall to drive in two and give the Legends their first lead.

But SCB lead off with a base hit and a monstrous home run to right, putting the Bulldogs ahead again in the bottom of the fifth. Down to their last two outs, Jake Berry hit a long home run to right to tie the game 6-6 to set the table for an exciting finish.

To reach the semi's the Legends beat the Homer, Ill. Heat 4-1 on Wednesday night, DeMarini, Calif. Bombers 14-2, and NFWB, Mich. Cobras 17-5 on Thursday.

Final Numbers: third place with a record of 9-1, 48 innings played, Legends 134 – Opponents 23, 30 home runs.
