High School Football Playoffs: Miramonte Wins, Campolindo Loses

The Matadors will play for the North Coast Section Division II crown next weekend

Miramonte High will play for a North Coast Section football title. Campolindo High will not.

The third seeded Matadors edged second ranked Clayton Valley Charter High, 44-38, in a wild Division II shootout on Friday evening.

Miramonte led 29-22 at halftime. The Matadors scored again early in the third quarter to make it 36-22.

However, Clayton Valley came back with a touchdown and two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 36-30 midway through the fourth quarter.

The two teams traded touchdowns before Miramonte was able to run out the clock for the victory.

Clayton Valley Charter won last year's NCS Division II title.

Miramonte, which is now 11-2 on the season, will play the winner of Saturday night's semifinal game between top seeded Casa Grande High and fourth ranked Montgomery High for this year's Division II championship next weekend.

Campolindo lost its Division III semifinal game, 49-34, to El Cerrito High on Friday night.

The second seeded Cougars trailed third ranked El Cerrito 14-7 at halftime. The Gauchos increased their lead to 34-21 at the end of three periods.

El Cerrito scored twice early in the fourth quarter to take a commanding 49-21 lead. Campolindo scored two late touchdowns, but it wasn't nearly enough.

It was Campolindo's first loss of the season. They are now 11-1.

The win for El Cerrito avenged their 42-27 loss to Campolindo on Sept. 20.
