Bottom Line: The Matadors clearly had Mission San Jose overmatched.

Ross Anderson threw for 149 yards, two touchdowns and ran for a score in leading the Miramonte High football team to a 62-0 smashing of Mission San Jose.

"I thought this was a very good effort for us. I think we missed a few things but other than that, I was pretty happy with what we were doing," Miramonte coach John Wade said.

Miramonte's defense gave up six total yards and was dominant throughout the game.

When the Mats forced Mission to go three-and-out on its first possession, Christian Thatcher returned the punt 59 yards to the end zone for the only points the Matadors would need.

It didn't stop there. Far from it.

On the ensuing kickoff, Anthony Piganelli's kickoff bounced to the Mission San Jose 15, where Warriors' players appeared confused on whether to pick up the ball. Miramonte's Brett Collins didn't hesitate and raced down to recover it. One play later, Micah Solit raced in from 13 yards out for a quick 13-0 lead.

Another Mission three-and-out and a muffed snap on the fourth down punt placed the ball at Mission San Jose 37, and the Matadors once again pushed ahead. John Coupin capped a five-play drive with an 11-yard touchdown scamper.

Anderson didn't throw his first touchdown pass until the end of the first quarter, a screen pass to Piganelli who had nothing but open field, racing 80 yards down the left sideline to cap an explosive first quarter.

"He is a great athlete, great kid and a real good football player. He's going to be special someday," Wade said.

Miramonte took its foot off the gas, but, with little resistance from Mission, the points continued to come.

Jack Pietrykowski got behind the Warriors' defense after catching an Anderson pass and sprinted 56 yards to the end zone for a 41-0 advantage. The following Mission drive stalled and Thatcher took the short punt from the Warriors' 32 and effortlessly ran it in for another score to make it 48-0 going into halftime.

The Matadors ran like the bulls, rushing for 238 yards led by Kevin Booze's 60. Booze ran for a 46-yard touchdown in the third quarter and Luke Carrillo added 39 yards and a five-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth to round out the scoring.
