Bottom Line: Campolindo's defense was tough once again; not allowing a first down until there was only 1:18 left in the first half. After two games this season the Cougars' defense has only allowed 20 points.

Fueled by a strong showing from their defense, the Cougars smothered the Mt. Eden offense to lead their team to victory.
After allowing only one first down during the first half, the Campolindo High football team cruised to a 35-13 win.
"In our secondary our kids had good spacing and then we just played physical," Campolindo coach Kevin Macy said. "The guys in the box, they played very physical."
The Campolindo defense kept Mt. Eden grounded to 3.4 yards per carry (81 yards on 24 carries) and averaged three yards per pass attempt (57 yards on 19 attempts).
"Our defense played great, they looked good all summer," quarterback Nick Zolintakis said. "Our defense has always looked good."
Following its win against Albany on Sept. 3, the Campolindo defense has yet to allow any points in the first three quarters of a game and has not trailed.
On offense, Campolindo stayed with its dual quarterback system of Brett Stephens and Zolintakis. Both quarterbacks cashed in on a touchdown pass each. However, each quarterback threw an interception. Zolintakis rushed for the first two touchdowns of the game.
"Nick is doing a great job with his package, it's a fun little offense for him and Brett is more an under center throwing type of quarterback and I think our receivers are more suited for that," Macy said. "We're getting a good blend of both kids having some success and a lot of kids getting involved and having fun, we're going to keep doing this."
Nine different players ran the ball from Campolindo, with Derick Margerum leading the team in yards with 76 on seven carries. Reiner Ebarle added 48 yards on sux carries and Erik Baker had 27 yards on eight carries.
"The kids that ran today, ran hard," Macy said. "They really loaded the box, and the kids just ran tougher."
Campolindo now must prepare to host El Cerrito next week.
"Our kids are playing with some intensity that we didn't have last year," Macy said. "I think it's helping us with our lack of experience, we still do make mental mistakes but (our intensity) is keeping us moving forward."
