8th-Grade Water Polo Players from Orinda Earn Spots on U.S. Development National Team

Over Memorial Day Weekend, when most were vacationing or spending leisure time with family and friends, four of Orinda’s top 8th grade, female, water polo players were competing at Citrus College, Glendora, for one of 28 spots on the Olympic Development Program's (ODP) USA Water Polo Development National Team.

After a four-day try out, Skylar Savar (14) Defender, Carson Broad (14) Attacker, Grace Tehaney (14) Center, and Katrina Drake (14) Attacker, were selected out of 73 athletes representing the 12 ODP zones.

Todd Halvorson the Development National Team Assistant Head Coach, had this to say about the four Orindans: “These girls consistently performed at a high level throughout the whole camp.  The effort they put forth, combined with the talent they possess helped them to stand out at their specific positions and be chosen as members of the 2014 Development National Team.”

All four girls will be attending Miramonte High School this fall.
