Stanley Seventh-Grader Struck by Car

A seventh-grade boy was struck by a car as he bicycled to Stanley Middle School this morning.

A seventh-grader at was struck by a car while cycling to school Wednesday but did not suffer significant injury, according to his principal.

“We want to stress that he is fine and he was brought to school,” said Principal David Schrag.  The boy’s parents did seek medical attention as a precautionary measure.

Shrag said the accident occurred at the corner of Hawthorne Drive and Moraga Boulevard.  “We believe he was in the crosswalk so he was doing the right thing,” Schrag offered.  The woman who struck the boy with her car went to Stanley Middle School immediately to identify herself.

“She was really good about coming in,” Schrag said.

The Stanley Middle School and Lafayette Elementary School area is known to be extremely challenging to navigate during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.  Drivers are urged to use extra caution during these times, school officials said.
