Lamorinda kids dumped those massive backpacks they trundle around, banged out a Spring Break assignment or two (nasty teachers) and settled in for a week of blissful recreation with minimal adult intervention -- doing what kids do.
The break seems to have helped. They're breathing a little easier, don't seem quite as stressed. One of ours joined classmates for a trip to Washington, D.C. and aside from a bout with 737 Flu appeared to have had a grand time seeing the sights and roaming the Nation's Capitol with the BFF's.
Man Child caught a huge break, had the number of practices and scrimmages his basketball league has him signed up for slashed from 57 a day to a mere dozen or so. We've bought stock in Gatorade as he's pounding that stuff down like a South of Market mendicant, leaving a trail of empty plastic bottles around the house like bread crumbs.
"I have a drinking problem," he stated somberly, minutes before completing the Moraga Spring Break tradition and throwing himself into the hot tub (yes, we have a hot tub. We know - "how sixties!"), Gatorade in hand.
Neighbors with older kids are all off checking out colleges across the country and the town has a sort of ghost town feel. She Who Must Remodel is in the throes of a bathroom renovation and dang if that doesn't make your wallet pucker nowadays -- pulling permits alone almost made me want to throw it all in, change my name, and move into a beach-front palapa down south of the border.
It's back to school for the kids on Monday, of course, and plenty to do around the rancho, but the last week had a nice pace to it and we hope everyone had a good time doing whatever they chose to do. What'd you do with your Spring Break?
Not looking forward to the return trek tomorrow.
