Security Tight for Sold Out Moraga Teen Night Event

Police, private security, a strict dress code, intoxilyzers - security is all part of the game for kids these days.

Thursday's "Teen Night" party at the New Rheem Theater is sold out, with hundreds of kids expected to flood Moraga's Rheem Valley shopping center for a night of dancing.

Theater Manager Beau Behan says security for the party - which will run from 8 p.m. to midnight with the line to get in forming up at 7:30 - will be tight.

"The kids are excited and we're going to make sure they have a good time in a safe and secure environment," Behan says.  "Moraga police will be on hand and we'll have private security, too.  The idea is to have a good time and dance, not give anyone a chance to cause trouble."

Behan and the theater's management are hoping to avoid the type of incidents that have marred similar events in Concord and Walnut Creek.  To that end, breath testing will be performed on those suspected of being under the influence, and anyone seen doing drugs or fighting will be ejected.

A dress code of sorts - no baggy or saggy clothing - will be enforced and the theme of the night, Neon 80's, in effect.

"Everything we've heard from the kids has been positive," Behan said.  "And we think that with a little planning we can provide a safe and unique environment for them to have fun in."

Lamorinda Patch will be covering the party and awarding a prize for the best dance video uploaded to the story we file Thursday night.  Look for the story, post a video... and keep safe.
