Playgrounds, Animals, Money and Standards on Moraga Schools Agenda

Board members start the year off with some new policies, get updates on the district's goals and review state-adopted standards on Tuesday night.

The Moraga school district has its regularly scheduled board meeting on Tuesday, September 13 in the Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School auditorium. The meeting starts at 7:30.

This month, the board takes a look at the unaudited financials for the district. It also hears from parents at Rheem Elementary about plans for the playground, using funds the students have been raising for the past four years.

The Common Core Standards, adopted in August 2010 by the state of California will also be discussed. These standards are meant to “prepare students for success in college and career,” according to the analysis for the board.  The district will introduce the standards via presentations at staff meetings and identify district and other resources to aid implementation.

The board will update its policy for dealing with tobacco at schools. It will also identify the guidelines for animals on school grounds, covering not only service animals, but also the potential for animals to serve an instructional purpose.

The reading tutor program for grades Kindergarten through third grade will undergo its annual review, adding STAR testing scores of program attendees to the analysis of the effectiveness of the program.
