Moraga Students Turning Cell Phones Into iPads

Joaquin Moraga Intermediate students are collecting old cell phones to raise money to buy new iPads

Out with the old and in with the new.

That's what some Moraga students are doing this month.

Classes at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School are collecting old cell phones and other electronic devices to raise money to buy new iPads.

The students began their drive on Jan. 6 and will continue it until Jan. 29.

The old phones they collect from parents, friends and others will be sold to trade2save.com to raise money for purchasing the iPads.

“The students have really been amazing in spreading the word about this cell phone fundraiser,” said Jill McTaggart, one of the teachers spearheading the effort.

The old cell phones and other devices can also be dropped off at the school or donated through the trade2save website.

McTaggart and others say research shows electronic devices such as iPads can quickly improve the learning experience for students.
