Moraga School Board Aims For Provisional Appointment

The board hopes to make its choice for governing board vacancy at a Dec. 20 meeting.

The Moraga School District Governing Board has voted to fill its board vacancy with a provisional appointment rather than a special election.

The vacancy was caused by last month's sudden, unexplained resignation of Dexter Louie a day after he had been re-elected Nov. 6.

The board is intending people to submit an application by Wednesday, Dec. 19 — see the procedure and announcement on the Moraga School District website. The board hopes to interview applicants at an open session on Thursday, Dec. 20, and then make the appointment that evening.

The alternative, a public election next June, would have cost an estimated $65,000, according to a piece in the Contra Costa Times.

Just curious, does anyone know why Parker Colvin (the third candidate) doesn't take the position or if he wasn't offered it?

Click on the CoCoTimes link above. Per that, Ranstrom stated that an open application period is required before an appointment. I believe Mr. Colvin HAS expressed interest since Dr. Louie resigned, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I am assuming Colvin will be appointed, but I know nothing but what I read.
