Local Teachers Vie for Big, Shiny Apple
Lamorinda TOYs -- Teachers Of The Year -- in the running for countywide honor.
Twenty Contra Costa teachers -- three of them from Lamorinda -- gathered early this month to meet and, perhaps, to size up the competition for the upcoming 2010-2011 Teachers of the Year (TOY) award dinner at the Concord Hilton on Sept. 23.
Teachers Mary Dolan of Del Rey Elementary, Alice Noyes of Donald Rheem Elementary, and Brian Mangold from Stanley Middle School are in the running for the coveted award this year.
More than 500 people have turned out for the annual awards ceremony, with the teachers and their families on hand for speeches and reminiscences of their past year and, finally, the announcement of the county's Teacher of the Year.
