Lafayette Schools Installing New Locks

Cost of about $60,000 for new locks at four elementary schools and Stanley Middle School.

The Lafayette School District is installing new locks on classroom doors in an effort to protect students from the specter of mass classroom violence.

“It was an idea that came from the teachers, and this has been a year where we’ve really spent quite a bit of time looking at the steps we can take to keep our kids and our teachers safer,” Superintendent Fred Brill told KCBS News.

It would cost the district less than $60,000 to replace the locks at its four elementary schools and a middle school, Brill told the Contra Costa Times.
