Lafayette School District API Strong, But Flat

The Academic Performance Index for the Lafayette school district is healthy, but the same as last year's score.

The Lafayette school district’s Academic Performance Index remained flat from last year’s score. The district had a score of 922 in both 2010 and 2011.

The score is generated based on the STAR testing scores from the district’s students at all four elementary schools and the intermediate school.  Each year, the district is required to improve as part of a federal mandate, which leads to a calculation of the district’s Average Yearly Progress, or AYP.

The Department of Education’s Information Guide explains the requirements for this year’s AYP, which impacts federal funding: “The API target under 2011 AYP requirements will be a 2011 Growth API of at least 710 or growth in the API of at least one point from 2010 to 2011.” The Lafayette school district meets the requirement, as it has a score above 710.
