Saint Mary's College Presents Creative Writing Reading Series: Robert Hass and Tom Meschery

The MFA Program invites you to celebrate Saint Mary's College of CA sesquicentennial with an evening of poetry with alumni Robert Hass and Tom Meschery.

 

ROBERT HASS is the author of The Apple Trees at Olema: New and Selected Poems and What Light Can Do: Essays 1985-2010. He was awarded the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, was US Poet Laureate from 1995-1997, won the National Book Critics’ Circle Award in 1984 and 1997, and was awarded the Yale Series of Younger Poets in 1973. A professor of English at University of California Berkeley, he graduated from Saint Mary’s College in 1963.

TOM MESCHERY was born in China and immigrated to the United States following World War II. He graduated from Saint Mary’s College in 1961 and received his MFA from the University of Iowa Writers Workshop in 1974 after a ten-year career in the National Basketball Association. His latest book of verse is Some Men, and his book of nonfiction, Caught in the Pivot, is an account of his year as a professional basketball coach. He’s been inducted into the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame and the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame. His jersey is retired by the Golden State Warriors.
