Flipping Out: Homes That Have Been Fixed Up And Resold In Lamorinda

Check out the "before" and "after" prices and photos on these homes

House flipping used to be a somewhat risky move usually done occasionally by experienced real estate professionals.

Not anymore. The practice of buying a house, fixing it up and then reselling it only a few months later is more and more common in today's real estate market.

It's reportedly happening at the quickest pace in decades in parts of California. In Southern California, the online real estate analysis site DataQuick reports house flipping is up 45 percent from the same time a year ago.

The market is prime for flipping, experts say. Housing demand is still high and prices are still rising.

In Lafayette, we found a home that was sold last summer and then resold this spring.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom house at 928 Oak Street was sold as a bank-owned property in July for $441,000.

The home was resold in May for $700,000 after a $100,000 remodeling that included a new foundation, new landscaping, a new kitchen and new bathrooms.

In Moraga, this five-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom house at 767 Camino Ricardo was sold in May 2012 for $888,000.

In December, it was resold for $950,000. There was no mention of any remodeling.

In Orinda, this four-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home at 14 Risa Court was sold in September for $925,000.

In April, the house was resold for $1.3 million after receiving after a "breath-taking remodel" and a new paint job.
