Survey Says: Orinda Ready To Plunk the Melons, Shake the Arugula

The city is looking at an earlier (April 2) start for the Saturday farmers market.

The bounty of the harvest will be a little earlier this year, and a little earlier next.

That’s if the Orinda City Council, meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Orinda Library Auditorium, follows through on a recommendation by city staff.

The market, provided from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays by the Contra Costa Certified Farmers’ Market, is due to start April 2 and extend through November. The 2012 plan proposes starting March 3.

Attached with the report are results from the farmers’ market’s survey of 81 people at the market in 2010. In there are some tasty morsels:

  • On the offerings, 28 percent wanted more booths, 1 percent complained about the high cost of seafood, and 1 percent wanted a longer season or year-round markets;
  • Asked if they visited other Orinda shops and restaurants while at the farmers’ market, 38 percent said yes and 29 percent said no;
