Sinkhole Solutions On Agenda of Orinda Council

City Council to review potential solutions for storm drain failure at Tarabrook and Evergreen drives; council meets at 7 p.m. tonight (Tuesday).

A Tarabrook Drive sinkhole and solid waste removal rates are on the agenda of the Orinda City Council, meeting tonight (Tuesday).

The council meets at 7 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) at the library auditorium, 26 Orinda Way. The 7 o'clock regular meeting comes after a scheduled closed session at 6 p.m. to discuss litigation.

The council will hear an update on repair and restoration of a storm drain at Tarabrook and Evergreen drives. The storm drain with 24-inch corrugated pipe under Tarabrook failed in the torrent of Dec. 1-2, resulting in a sinkhole that has blocked part of the street. Flow from upstream is being conveyed around the blockage by pumping.

A property owner noticed first signs of a failure in November. At that time city staff tried to run a camera through the pipe without success.

Staff is preparing a request for proposals to send to engineers to design a permanent repair, according to a staff report with the council agenda (attached to this article).
