The Walnut Creek City Council just passed a ban on smoking downtown and in all condominiums and apartment buildings in town.
And now there’s a good chance that next month Pittsburg will become the third Contra Costa community to ban plastic bags. Richmond has already passed ordinances outlawing plastic bags and El Cerrito is in the process of formally approving their ordinance.
San Pablo and Lafayette are mulling similar rules. Plastic bags are already verboten in all of Alameda County.
Backers of plastic bag bans argue that they imperil marine life and are just plain ugly. Is it time for the Board of Supervisors to make a single plastic bag rule for all of Contra Costa County? Patch has asked the question before, and opinion ran strongly against a countywide ban. Have you changed your mind?
