Starting Monday, it's going to cost more to park at BART stations in Lafayette, Orinda and other towns.

BART is increasing the daily fee by 50 cents at some stations along the Pittsburg/Bay Point, Fremont and Daly City lines, effective Monday.

The cost for parking at these stations will rise to $2 a day.

Lafayette BART and Orinda BART are among the stations. So are Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek.

Parking fee increases on another lines will take effect in two weeks.

The fees at BART parking lots are reviewed every six months. If a lot is consistently full, the fee can be hiked by 50 cents. If the lot is usually less than 95 percent full, then the fee can be decreased by 50 cents.

The maximum fee for station is $3 a day, except for West Oakland. It can be raised higher there.

The money generated by the parking fees is put into a special account that can only be used for improvements to the stations and improvements to station access such as shuttle and feeder systems.

Just another in the overall 60%+ increase in BART fares coming down the pike. But the workers are very, very happy with their outrageous contract. As always, taxpayers and fare payers have nobody representing their interests as monies are tossed around like candy.

BART must be sold to private enterprise. All tax subsidies must stop. In Orinda, the sales tax would be 8.5% instead of 9.0% if no part of the sales tax went to BART. The BART part of local property taxes has gone up 74% since last year. Now, BART wants to increase parking-lot fees by 100% -- at a time when inflation is 1.5%. It's time to get ride of BART's management and employees. I suggest that people boycott BART. --Richard Colman, Orinda, California.

Actually, BART parking fees are likely in the process of tripling, not doubling...from $1/day to $3/day. Every six months they are increasing by fifty cents.

Support Steve Glazer.... he is the only one trying to break the power of Bart. Our other representatives have just cowered. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2014/01/13/phil-matier-california-lawmakers-kill-proposal-to-ban-transit-strikes/
