New Manzanita Bridge In Orinda Is Open

After $2 million and a year of construction, the road to Orinda Estates is open again to two-way traffic

The new Manzanita Bridge in northern Orinda is finally open to two-way traffic.

Both lanes of the $2 million bridge were opened last week, but there was still traffic controls as striping work was done.

The striping work was completed on Wednesday and unrestricted two-way traffic can now flow through.

The project took about a year to complete, causing daily traffic delays on Manzanita Drive between Camino Pablo and Acacia Drive.

"It's been a long time in the making," said Chuck Swanson, Orinda public works director.

The new bridge replaced an old bridge that needed to be torn down.

The happiest people to see the new span might be the residents of the Orinda Estates neighborhood up the road from the bridge.

"They see us as they drive by and they smile and wave," said Swanson.
