Local Businessman and Grocer Want to do Business in Moraga

A Moraga man and an East Bay grocery outlet are hoping to do what so many Moragans seem to want - create new businesses in the Rheem Valley Center locals can use and support.

The pitiful moaning of Moragans wailing over the loss of business in the very heart of town has been heard, apparently, by a local man and an East Bay grocer hoping to fill the void with produce, a sports cafe, internet access and - some vibe.

Lamorinda Patch accepted the offer of town officials to check out permit applications for the new arrivals and see what they had in mind.  The bottom line - locals in search of a place to have a salad, a smoothie, or who are looking for some avocadoes for that last-minute guacamole will be happy.

Local man Michael Erez has filed an application to bring the old Fudge Alley at 376 Park Street back as a rejuvenated restaurant/cafe with an international appeal - offering falafel, schnitzel, salads, some music and indoor/outdoor seating.

Erez has also indicated his intent to open a "sweets shop" at 386A Park St. - again with a broad-based menu of pastries, waffles, coffee, juices, and smoothies wrapped up in a comfortable atmosphere of indoor/outdoor seating, room for chess players and those much-needed Internet connections.

And if scurvy is threatening to overtake your household and you long for more choices when it comes to produce and specialty foods, you may take heart in knowing that Los Hermanos Cortez Lopez, an East Bay grocery enterprise, hopes to set up its produce bins at 572-576 Center St., in the very heart of the shopping center.

Their application is in and they have made it known they intend to bring fresh fruit, a general offering of other grocery supplies as well as some specialty items to their place in the center.

Lamorinda Patch is working to contact both entrepreneurs in this case and we'll let you know what they have to say about going into business in Moraga.
