Lafayette Safeway May Expand Parking Lot

Closing of Valero gas station to accommodate more grocery parking is on the Lafayette Planning Commission agenda.

If you've ever gotten frustrated trolling the Safeway parking lot in Lafayette for a parking space, some spots may be opening up.

There is a proposal to remove the Valero gas station on Mount Diablo Boulevard and expand the adjacent Safeway parking lot into that space. A request from Safeway, Inc, and the gas station owners, Gus Shahidi and the Bocci family, is on the Lafayette Planning Commission agenda this evening (although the city staff recommendation is to postpone formal discussion until the Nov. 19 Planning Commission meeting).

The commission is estimated to take that up at 8 p.m. tonight (Monday) at the Community Hall at the Lafayette Library, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd. That follows a regularly scheduled joint session of the Planning Commission and the Design Review Commission at 7 p.m.
