Husband and Wife Team File for Moraga Council Race

Team Wanken, better known perhaps as Moraga residents Dennis and Eleni Wanken, have announced their candidacy for the Moraga Town Council.

Moraga residents Dennis and Eleni Wanken filed papers announcing their joint bid for two seats on the Moraga Town Council Thursday.

"Team Wanken's" unusual move caught local election watchers off guard, with most expecting Dennis Wanken - a frequent critic of the current council - to make the try alone. Barring any last-minute filings by under-the-wire candidates Friday, the Wankens will be going up against incumbents Dave Trotter and serving Mayor Ken Chew in November.

"We recognize the importance of participation and inclusion in the field of public policy," Dennis Wanken, a former Moraga School District board member and president said. "My experience as a liaison between the Town and Moraga School District will enhance cooperation between these two elected bodies."

Eleni Wanken, a former Acalanes Union High School District Board member, said upon filing: "As a child, I immigrated from Greece with my family in search of the American dream. I understand that democracy requires participation from each and every member of the community. We believe it is important to serve and help protect the quality of life that people of Moraga cherish.
